Subject Make a Beautiful Company

When you go to the Big city of Japan, you could find the ¡¸Royal Company¡¹ which selling many goods of vehicle named "Yellow Hat" Brand. CEO "Kakiyama" started his own business with a bicycle after graduating from an agricultural high school and working as an office worker. This Company is a successful conglomerate which operating 480stores in China, Taiwan, and the Middle-East also recording 8 hundred million dollars in sales. He is saying that He has been cleaning the restroom of company every single working day for 40-years since he started his own business, and that's a key point to being a successful company.




His book, ¡¸Celan your head, Clean your mind¡¹ which also published in Korea, introduces an anecdote that started cleaning. In the early days of the company, there were so many difficulties so that he couldn't raise the salary or provide welfare or benefits to employee. All he could do for his employees was clean up the restroom.




He make an outstanding records in business administration through a Catch Phrase named "Clean-up Management" also develop the educating program named ¡¸Cleaning Restroom Training¡¹ and train CEOes through this program. He said that "You could clean-up your head through cleaning your surroundings when you have a concern or stress. There is a Greatist Power which changing people's mind and life lies in "Cleaning"




¡¸The broken window Theory¡¹is a well-known theory.

In 1969, a Psychologist "Zimbardo" proceeding interesting experiment. He left the two vehicle on the street of vulnerable public security for one week. One was opened a Bonnet, and the other had broken windows.

After One week later, The former remained unchanged, but the latter lost all tires and batteries and damaged.



A very famous Case using the results of this experiment was "decreasing the crime rate of New York Metro"


In 1980s, the Newyork city's public security was very bad. In reason, there was a saying "Never take the New york metro" among the tourists.

As a measure to reduce the number of violent crimes on the metro, they decided to "thoroughly erase the graffiti" which was judged to be the same as a broken window vehicle.

Five years after the Graffiti Erasing Project, all the graffiti on the New York City Metro has been removed. Also the Crime cases have decreased 75 percent. Erasing the graffiti could prevent crime.

So we have come to the conclusion that habituation of organizing, cleaning can lead to increase productivity and to improve quality.


In other words, The Clause 8 of the LCC Company mission statement, "5S Habits make a clean and beautiful company." is directly connect to Clause 1 "Quality and price competitiveness and timely supply lead to customer satisfaction."


When I had an duty 'Factory Manager' at a large company, I started cleaning toilets and landscaping as of my belief 'the Manager' should take the lead this 'cleaning' everyone doesn't want to do. And I believe this cleanliness of the factory leads to improve the productivity and also the quality innovation.

When the company CEO wash the ashtray and toilet seat with bare hands, it makes employee think 'clean up is work and also important'


Since the LCC foundation, During 22years, we has been doing 'Clean-Day' every thursday 8:00am. We make a beautiful factory through doing cut down trees, weed the lawn, plant the beautiful flower

Since more than 10years ago, landscaping has been transformed into daily activities. Support the cleaning of the production site and every warehouse, And now female empolyees are cleaning on their own to maintain surroundings clean.

Starting with the Seoul sales department, all departments are proceeding "Office 5S". Also, production site, raw materials and product warehouse divided into their respective roles and proceeding systematic 5S activities.

External consigned training for 5S is held every month. Each department's "5S case presentation" is held every Monday 4 pm. After "5S case presentation" the CEO and executive staff members are visiting the field to encourage employees.


The 5S activities for having competitive in quality and price shall be linked to the management innovation. And only when this activities are sublimated to the company culture this will become continuously and also lead to performance of business.

The successful introduction and settlement of this must be preceded by the strong will of the CEO and team manager. Each departments manager's lead and all staff member's 5S activities are the basis of manufacturing company. Daily life of "5S activities" to employees mean that it is shortcut to achieve the Vision of LCC "a hundred year enterprise through export"


It should be an enterprise-wide activity like TQC.

5S of office, warehouse, production site should be performed by all employee with separately roles. There will also be a decision and EVENT such as boldly dispose of idle equipment, documents that have expired periods.

But through visiting Japan Customer and travel, I feel that we have to learn from Them. Also to be a good country and good people than Japan, we have not to boycott Japan but to learn from Japan.



Above all things, Japanese have learned 'Meiwa-ku' from Parents and school since they are kid that should not be a nuisance to others, but should be kind. Also, When I get relationship with Japan Buyers, I feel they are too honest. If Claim gets paid a few ten thousand dollars, we doesn't have to calculate this or that. They think that it is absolutely certain that get paid their request amount.


First of all, we have to learn from Japan is that cleanliness mind, and habit of arrangement.

When I travel Japan, I can't find a cigarette butts or trash anywhere in the restaurant or park, not to mention the taxi and metro. Not only the crowded city, but also the quiet countryside village and house are clean and tidy.

When I take a bus along the country side, I can easily find a garden tree even small houses. After they watching sports at the stadium, there is no trash left. Also the locker room which used by the players also be cleaned and organized. No one is throwing away, so we don't need any manpower to clean it up. Then it could be spend less for maintenance.


The Japanese people's cleaning must have come from their early childhood education. My friend's grand daughter is kindergarten student in Tokyo, she always keep her shoes, clothes and toys in order and manages her daily life without help from her parents.

Most families in Japan are doing "housecleaning" on a date of late December. Unnecessary things in the house are collected separately or distributed to others, and the parts that are usually difficult to clean are clean-up every corner of the house and Greeting the New Year.


The company spends a few ten thousand dollars to plant landscaping water such as pine trees, and flower grasses, and pays a lot of money for landscaping management. This spring, we are making ponds and raising silk carp at the discharge path of the wastewater treatment plant, giving another small pleasure during lunchtime walking.


In spring, we plant beautiful flower such as tulips, and in autumn, we plant chrysanthemums everywhere to feel the scent of autumn. The roses bloom along the white fence, and we feel comfortable and happy when you walk through the green, weed-free LCC Garden.

Therefore, I think to practice the clause 8 of company mission "make a beautiful company' is directly connect to "a company culture in which employees are happy and realize their dreams'


Japan's industrial competitiveness is one of the best in the world, because it is based on the artisan spirit and the 5S that has been habituated from an early age.


We, LCC, have been developing continuously for 22 years. We believe that our Vision "a hundred year enterprise through export"is possible because our corporate culture has been working since we started our mission, Clause 8, "Making a beautiful, clean company with 5S"
